Before you act/ speak, think... Is it kind, true?

Ohla Bee,

So these past few days have had me really in awe of the manner people behave.

First, it was the policemen at their self-imposed checkpoint in Yaba, jumping in front of cars wielding firearms; to the Humans of Ikate-Elegushi, the ones we met yesterday on our way home.

Ok, deep breaths.

Let me explain yesterday’s incident.

So, on our way from work, we took a detour off the major road and followed a quicker route, or so we thought. When we were somewhere close to the link road, we happened upon a unique being from the stables of Fast and Furious 11. Dude came charging at us while flashing his lights (in broad day light) to indicate we should wait till His Lordship approached the spot so he could pass, then he drove towards us as fast as he could only to stop just in front of us.

Now, it all happened so fast, so we giggled and just stopped while watching his drama play out. After waiting for a couple of minutes in the middle of the road, some by passer walks up to us and in a calm, sane manner asks that we please move back so the F&F Driver could pass.

While this dialogue was ongoing, 15 males (or more) jumped out in response to some war cry and one of them proceeded to tell us how provoked he was with us for blocking his street. Next thing we knew, he proceeded to let the air out of our tyres.

Pause***

Now, this bit shocked me and each time I think of it, it fans the embers of vexation within me.

Why would you take out the air from the tyres of someone because you were passing by and assumed they were at fault by virtue of their gender? And you didn’t deem it fit to take the air out of the other driver’s car because he was driver a posh looking car? Or because he is male and so must definitely be right?

None of the mo-gbo-mo ya judges approached the F&F driver in his Highlander.

I would never have thought that in this day and age, humans would gang up on other humans because of their gender.

I was so shocked and enraged.

Eventually we drove past, amidst all the brouhaha and I kept thinking to myself, ’ Father Lord, this is how innocent people get lynched.’

Mobs self appoint themselves as judge and jailer, and mere humans take up the mantle of justice at the snap of their fingers.

Hmm…

Before we appoint ourselves judge and ruler, methinks we should pause and ponder on how we would feel if the same treatment were meted out to us. The whole time, during the incident, I understood what it meant to cry for your country. Their singular act (plus plural join gan!) went against everything kind and humane and true! And for what? Because we were all females in the car? My heart aches each time I remember it.

Really.

Humans!

Someone is driving in an official car and blasting his sirens like he has a dead WhiteWalker in his trunk about to resurrect! Ha!
Weaving in and out of traffic lanes, with their guns peeking out of the windows, like they're invincible.

Hmm!

Breathe, Cee, breathe.

On to happier thoughts.

My wee lass will be a year old in a couple of days and being the DIY being I am, my newest craze is Owl paper lanterns.

What you get when the wheels in your head churn out ideas faster than you can keep up. Hehehehehehehe.

So, it’s either a Piñata or a fun paper lantern.

Oh well. In Buster Moon’s voice, ‘The winds of change!’

Counting down to the end of the year, already!!!!!!!

And prayers for the Hurricane Harvey victims. May God keep and protect them, always and in every way, in Jesus name, Amen!

Loads of hugs,

Cee

P.S Seeing as I never put up my oh-so-goofy pictures, I should totally dedicate one post to just airing them out,ño?

Ja!!!
